NAMING OUR COLLECTIONS - THE MEANING BEHIND THE WORDS
Every bag at Sarjaa has a name.
Not a code. Not a number. Not a colour descriptor dressed up as an identity.
A name that comes from somewhere.
When we started building this brand, one of the earliest decisions we made was that nothing would be arbitrary. Not the materials. Not the process. And certainly not the words we chose to put on each piece.
Language matters to us. We are a brand rooted in India, shaped by its textures, its stories, its layered histories. So when it came time to name the things we make, we did not look outward. We looked inward. Into the languages that raised us.
Dua, from Hindi and Urdu, means blessing. A prayer offered quietly. An intention held with both hands. Our first tote was always meant to carry more than a laptop and a wallet. It was meant to carry your day. We could not think of a better word.
Punya, from Sanskrit, means virtue. Merit earned through right action. The Punya frame bag is deliberate, structured, considered. It does not try to impress. It simply shows up, and it earns the room.
Kenti holds the idea of clarity and radiance. Our top-handle bag with the clean structured flap. For the woman who has decided. Who does not need to explain herself.
Kala is one of the most layered words in Sanskrit. It means art. It means time. In its darkest register, it is the colour of night. Our crossbody carries all of this quietly. Minimal on the outside. Full of meaning within.
Pracheen means ancient. Timeless. That which belongs to no single era. We wanted a silhouette that did not chase the moment, and so we gave it a name that does not either.
Sebu is our love letter to the material itself. Our satchel is made from apple leather, waste from the juicing industry, transformed into something you carry for years. The name honours where it came from.
Bhoomi is Sanskrit for earth. For the ground that holds everything. The strip bag layered in its construction, steady in its form. Named for the thing that does not move.
Sihi means sweet in Kannada. Not the performative kind. The kind that lingers after the moment has passed. Our mini bag. Small enough to feel like a choice. Considered enough to feel like a luxury.
And then there is Rooh.
Rooh, from Urdu and Arabic, is the soul. The part of you that cannot be described but is always present. Our double flap bag. Structured outside. Layered within. The one you reach for when you want to feel like yourself.
We named it last. We think about it the most.
Every name in our collection is a word someone’s grandmother used. A word that appears in poetry. A word that has survived centuries because it carries something true.
That is what we want our bags to do as well.
Love your style, love planet, love Sarjaa.
